Whilst studying Spanish at the University of Durham, I completed Spanish language and translation modules alongside cultural modules focusing on Spanish and South American cinema. I spent my third year abroad and worked as an English language assistant in Murcia as well as taking a Spanish language course at the Universidad de Murcia.
Since university I have used my language skills daily. I taught Spanish to A-level standard at a secondary school and became Head of Spanish within two years. Whilst teaching I had the desire to continue my own education and consequently embarked upon my MA in Translation where I specialised in Spanish to English translation. The module included training in technical, legal, medical and culture-specific translation. My dissertation involved translating a technical proposal for a new aircraft from Spanish to English.
I have also travelled extensively in Spain, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru. This has afforded me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge of the different language variations and customs across the Spanish-speaking world.
